Other Characters

Glenn Quagmire
Quagmire is the Griffins’ next-door sex-addict neighbor and Peter’s best friend. He is voiced by Seth McFarlane. He is an airline pilot, but is best known for his extreme sexuality, attracted to nearly everything and everyone (especially Lois Griffin). He exhibits a vocal tic, the sound “giggity” once or numerous times in rapid succession, particularly when aroused, and the only thing that doesn’t arouse him, according to “Baby Not on Board” is hearing people use the word “rubbish” when they should say “garbage”. Quagmire is also known to have sex with various women that he brings home. He has a deaf brother and a domestically abused sister, Harriet. He also has a daughter he named Anna Lee who he later put up for adoption after he realized that she needed a better life than he could give her, though he hopes to see her again when she’s 18 or older. Quagmire reveals that he absolutely loathes Brian in “Jerome Is the New Black”, listing the many ways Brian is a terrible individual and wants nothing to do with him. Before angrily adding he could forgive every single one of Brian’s flaws if he wasn’t such a “big, sad, alcoholic BORE”.

Joe Swanson
Joe is the Griffins’ paraplegic neighbor and Peter’s friend. He is voiced by Patrick Warburton. As shown in “A Hero Sits Next Door” before moving to Quahog, Joe was injured in his job as a police officer while stopping the Grinch from stealing Christmas and slipped on a roller skate and fell off a roof (though some episodes show he has been a paraplegic since he was young.) Despite his lameness, Joe still proves to be an extremely skilled police officer, as he is constantly seen pursuing criminals or rescuing victims with the aid of his wheelchair and even goes so far as to abandon his wheelchair to complete his work.

Cleveland Brown
Cleveland is a fictional character voiced by Mike Henry on the animated series Family Guy, and central character in the spin-off series, The Cleveland Show. In the first seven seasons of Family Guy, Brown is a frequently recurring character.
Cleveland is one of Peter’s best friends and is usually depicted as exceedingly gentle, patient, and sweet and it is only on rare occasions that he has been known to lose his temper and resort to violence. However, Cleveland gets visibly annoyed with racist behavior. He often acts as the voice of caution when other characters hatch harebrained schemes. Cleveland’s speech is slow, almost elongated. Various flashbacks give conflicting histories of his speech patterns. In the episode “Death Lives” Peter Griffin met Cleveland in the 1970s and he (Cleveland) was skinnier (and obviously younger), sporting an Afro, but still spoke in the slow manner that he is known for.

Adam West
Mayor Adam West is a fictionalized caricature of the actor of the same name on the animated television series Family Guy. The character, voiced by West himself, is the mayor of the town of Quahog, Rhode Island, where the series is set. Mayor West is characterized as an intense, soft-spoken lunatic whose delusions often come at great expense and sometimes danger to citizens of Quahog. His psychotic whims include dispatching the entire Quahog police department to Cartagena, Colombia, to search for the fictional character Joan Wilder from the film Romancing the Stone, or wasting council money on a solid gold statue of the Dig ‘Em frog and cementing coffins since he is zombie phobic.

Bruce
Bruce is a mustached Southerner who speaks in a calm, drawn-out voice with a slight lisp. He is voiced by Mike Henry. Though he was not given a name until the episode “No Chris Left Behind”, he has appeared in several episodes without being named on-screen. He even comments on it the first time his name is spoken in the series. He has several catch phrases, the most notable being “Oh no!” It is also speculated that Bruce is homosexual and that Jeffrey is his domestic partner, as in Road to the North Pole where he states in the song “All I Want for Christmas” that he wants a wedding ring from a guy named Jeffrey.

Carter Pewterschmidt
Mr. Pewterschmidt is a billionaire industrialist, shipping mogul, and owner of several major companies. He is voiced by Seth McFarlane. His company in the episode Business Guy is named Pewterschmidt Industry, and he is also a member of what is probably the New York Yacht Club whose clubhouse is located in Newport, Rhode Island. He is shown to be friends with other powerful people such as Michael Eisner and Bill Gates. Carter serves as one of the antagonists to the series. He hates Peter with a passion and makes frequent jokes and does various things to embarrass and or cause Peter pain. On rare occasions, though, he and Peter share a friendship and work together, normally with a common goal. He loves Lois but sometimes does not listen to her and tries to boss her around. He is married to Barbara Pewterschmidt, with whom he had three children – Lois, Carol, and Patrick. In the episode “No Chris Left Behind,” he is a member of the Skull and Bones and also slightly admires Chris.

Herbert
Herbert is an elderly pederast who resides just down the street from the Griffin family and lusts after Chris. He is voiced by Mike Henry. In the episode “Play It Again, Brian”, Chris finally realizes this and asks Herbert, “Are you a pedophile?” to no onscreen answer. Also, in Spies Reminiscent Of Us, Stewie refers to a “pedophile who lives down the street” who nobody is taking any action against “because he’s so funny”, clearly talking about Herbert. He has a dog named Jesse, who is also very old and is unable to use his hind legs. He has a high-pitched, very soft effeminate voice and pronounces sibilant consonants with a high-pitched whistle. Herbert is often seen wearing a light blue robe and slippers. He walks with a walker and frequently makes inappropriate, sexually-tinged comments to teenage boys. He has been adequetely nicknamed, ‘Herbert the pervert’.
